Common things to know

  • Who can give blood?: Anyone between 18 and 65 years of age and in normal health having a body weight of 45 kg or more and a haemoglobin content no less than 12.5 gms/hundred ml can be a donor.
  • Can I donate blood every month?: Any healthy adult, both male and female, can donate blood. Men can donate safely once in every three months while women can donate every four months.
  • Can I donate blood if I drink alcohol?: No alcohol intake 24 hours prior to blood donation.
  • Can I donate blood if my hemoglobin is low?: If your hemoglobin is low, you will be asked to wait to donate until your levels return to normal. To help ensure that it is safe for you to donate, females must have a minimum hemoglobin level of 12.5g/dL and males must have a minimum level of 13.0g/dL.
  • Weight: The Donor Should not be less than 45 Kilograms.
  • Must be in good health and feeling well
  • Must be at least 16 years old in most states
